Montreal, June 7, 2016

At this year’s meeting, the membership said a grateful farewell to four departing IofC Canada Board members: Richard Batsinduka, Augustino Lucano, Firyal Mohamed, and Sara Vassigh. Co-chair Lorne Braun expressed great appreciation for their efforts and their devotion to the Board and the fellowship across Canada.

In their place, four new board members were elected, two for one-year terms and two for three -year terms.

  • Karen Bambonye (Ottawa) was elected for a 1-year term, and will serve as treasurer. Karen works for the federal government, and has been working with various IofC teams since 2003, focusing most recently on youth workshops in universities.
  • Elaine Gordon (Ottawa) was elected for a 1-year term, and will serve as board secretary. Elaine has been involved in MRA/IofC most of her life. Coming to Canada from Ireland in 2011, Elaine has focused her efforts primarily on organizing and cataloguing the massive IofC Canada archives, documenting 80 years of history.
  • Cecilia (Thembi) Silundika (Ottawa ON) was elected as a director for a 3-year term, and plans to focus on various outreach activities. Thembi works for the federal government, and has been involved in IofC since 1992, focusing particularly on Global Indigenous Dialogue and the Youth Leadership Program.
  • Aron Tegenfeldt (Vancouver BC) was elected as a director for a 3-year term, and will be involved in a variety of activities including fundraising. Aron has been a Caux Scholar, and is co-founder and board member of Cocos Pure, which demonstrates his commitment to ethically sourced and healthy food products. Aron is also very involved in outreach in Myanmar.

These four new board members join three continuing board members:
