The Bocock/de Vos families awarded Alberta's Century Farm and Ranch Award

If you have visited Kilmagar Farm, Alberta, you may well have heard the story of the two brothers, John and Bill Bocock, who run the farm and still live on it. In an article by Journalist Kevin Ma in the St. Albert Gazette in 2016, John recounted how after seeing the MRA/IofC film ‘Freedom’ when it was in Edmonton in the late 50's, and hearing the cast of the film speak on the importance of reconciliation, he realized he had to take a look at his own life. ‘I realized my relationship with my brother Bill needed a bit of help’ he said. The two reconciled and have farmed together ever since. The article also quoted John as saying, ‘When I watch the national news, most of it is bad news about bad relationships. The lesson we seem slow to learn is how to get along with each other. We need to start making friends with people instead of dropping bombs on them”!

In a recent article by Lucie Roy in Morinville Online July 25th, 2022, it reports that the families were recently awarded the Alberta’s Century Farm and Ranch Award. This award recognizes pioneer families who continue to own and actively operate the same land for 100 years or more. The farm has been an oasis for many visiting from around the world or close to home. The stories and experiences of change and miracles have fed the hearts and minds of many. Congratulations to the Bocock and de Vos families.
